Private, public and non-profit employers are joining together to meet Mayor Villaraigosa’s challenge to hire 15,000 young job seekers between July 2009 and June 2010.
We understand that in order to meet this challenge, employers need quality candidates with the entry level skills necessary to succeed in the workplace.
L.A. Youth at Work, an initiative of the L.A. Area Chamber of Commerce, trains and certifies HIRE LA’s Youth applicants. Our candidates achieve readiness for entry level employment by passing rigorous training curriculum established by human resource professionals. They receive resume assistance and pass customer service and math skills tests. Then they attend a mock interview where they are judged on punctuality, professional attire, document completion and articulate interview skills. If students do not pass the performance rubric they are directed to return to the skills workshops for further assistance.
