The Work Readiness Certificate is a portable credential that will put entry-level job seekers in the front of the line when looking for a job in L.A. The program is aimed at young people, 16 - 24 years old.
Hundreds of youth have received a Work Readiness Certificate, indicating their strong foundation of critical skills to obtain and retain entry-level employment. They are employees who:
- complete work accurately, on time, and to a high standard of quality
- follow work-related rules and regulations
- demonstrate willingness to work and show initiative
- display responsible behaviors at work, including avoiding absenteeism and demonstrating promptness.
Youth interested in Work Readiness Certification will contact participating community partners to schedule a WRC interview. Prior to their interview, youth will be instructed to complete an online job application, online math skills tests, online customer service test, and resume. Successful completion of online job application, online customer satisfaction survey, online basic math skills test and resume will be validated by the participating community partner.
When the preparation is complete, the applicant will attend the scheduled certification interview where they will:
- Complete a second written application in the presence of a certifying adult
- Be interviewed by a business volunteer or trained case manager that will verity that youth have adequately mastered all work readiness competencies
- Be scored by an interviewer who will use the WRC Scoring Rubric to verify qualifications
- Receive immediate feedback and certification eligibility
Youth who receive a Work Readiness Certificate will have access to job leads and upcoming hiring events.
Those deemed ineligible will receive feedback and a list of agencies and organizations that can provide work readiness development.
